The AI Ready Researcher Series
Help create an environment that supports AI ready research by joining your fellow researchers in conversation and experimentation to explore the opportunities and risks of using genAI in research, scholarship and artistic works at USask. This will help inform future USask supports and guidance for researchers.
This series will be held every Thursday from Oct. 8th to Oct. 29th. It consists of two facilitated discussions and two experimentation sessions. Please join us for all sessions or just the ones you are most interested in.
Bring your lunch to each session and your laptop to the experimentation sessions. We will provide coffee.
Presenters: Trevor Batters, Kurt Bergsma, Catherine Boden, Ann Liang
Sessions
From Idea to Inquiry: Gen AI in Scholarly Work
Join us for a conversation about using GenAI during the preparatory and data collection stages of your research, scholarly, and creative works (e.g., idea generation, literature discovery, design, planning, and data collection). Together we will explore both the opportunities and limitations of these tools, with a focus on privacy, tool selection, ethical, transparent, and responsible use that prioritizes research integrity, quality, and critical human judgment.
Details: Oct. 8, 2026, 12-1 pm in Rm G3, Murray Library Register
AI, Analysis & Authorship: Navigating the Grey Areas
Join us for a conversation about using GenAI during the later stages of research, scholarship, and creative work (e.g., data analysis, interpretation and synthesis of findings, manuscript and grant writing, knowledge mobilization, and research dissemination). Together we will explore the opportunities and limitations of these tools, with a focus on ethical, transparent, and responsible use that prioritizes research integrity, quality, authorship, and scholarly rigor.

From Idea to Inquiry: Prompt, Play and Explore
Join us for a hands-on session where you'll experiment with GenAI tools approved by USask, including Copilot and Gemini, and see a demonstration of Claude. Bring your own questions and tasks to discover what these tools can and cannot do and explore practical ways they may support academic research. Whether you're curious or already experimenting with AI, this is a great opportunity to learn, test, and share ideas in a friendly, collaborative environment.

Supporting research success across campus
USask Library is part of a cross-campus network of supports for researchers at every stage of their career. As expectations around research data management, open scholarship, and responsible use of technology continue to evolve, the Library remains a key partner in helping researchers navigate these changes with confidence.
